The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) Cooperative Credit Union on August 19, 2025, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new office complex, aimed at improving service delivery and addressing existing space limitations.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako described the initiative as a significant step toward enhancing staff welfare and supporting institutional development. He noted that the new facility would ease congestion in the current office and provide a stronger identity for the union within the University Community.
Regional Manager of the Brong Ahafo Chapter of the Credit Union Association, Mr. Gilbert Bena Pewodie, commended the board and staff of the UENR Cooperative Credit Union for their vision. He assured them of the Association’s readiness to provide financial support if required, highlighting the project’s potential to strengthen financial independence and positively influence the university’s academic environment.

Board Chairman Mr. Alfred Ohenenana Appiah acknowledged the support of university management in making land available for the project. He further thanked past and present board members, staff, and members whose contributions made the project possible. He indicated that the first phase would be completed within a year to allow staff to relocate into the new space.
The building will be a two-storey structure. The ground floor, which constitutes the first phase, will contain a parking hall, office space for the hire-purchase unit, washrooms, and storerooms. The first floor will accommodate a boardroom and lettable office spaces, designed to generate additional revenue.

The ceremony concluded with the symbolic breaking of the ground by the Vice-Chancellor, regional officials, and board executives, after which participants toured the site. The project also coincides with the union’s 10th anniversary year, marking a milestone in its growth and commitment to member welfare.
